Could have given that money to me, if we are wasting 170M might as well spend it on boats and parties

You could not live with your own failure.

And where did that bring you?

      Back to me.

    3. I think it’s impossible for the budget of a movie like this to be any lower. With inflation, it’s just not realistic. If anything, they’ve actually reduced the cost compared to what similar movies were costing before the pandemic.

He-man welcoming Supergirl to the biggest bombs of the summer/year club.

    5. Hollywood remains shocked that audiences stay home when main actor says, “movie is not for them”.

    6. Who thought it was a good idea to make a supergirl movie. They should have focused on bigger characters with more appeal and slowly introduce her in those movies so audiences grow to like her. Just a bad move on DCU. Hopefully it reviews well that way it has legs.

Surely with this budget they thought the movie could make $450M+….just don’t get why they thought that.

    8. People were claiming this was a lower budgeted superheroes in the 100M range.

Yikes… this looks DOA and parts of the overseas places isn’t that popular for Supergirl that is less popular then Superman had

I just hope the movie is more colorful than the trailers. Woman of Tomorrow is a GORGEOUS book.

I’m sad people are rooting for this to fail instead of hoping that it can live up to the excellent source material.

Asked my friend yesterday if he’s going to watch Supergirl, and he didn’t even know it’s in cinemas already.

    12. Milly alcork went to the Emilia Clarke school of beloved GoT actresses that can’t get a hit at the box office after apparently.

It’s not breaking even. It’ll barely make back the 170M at this rate

They need to bring Jason Mamoa back to the heavy promotion

Put him in every talk show

I have barely seen him in the promotion

    15. Damn they could have spent this on another project seems like they will lose some here

    16. The budget conversation is interesting because of how rapid inflation has been. In 2019, this would have only been $130 Million, which is insane. That means they’ve actually reduced the budget compared to comparable superhero movies from that year—adjusted for inflation, this movie is cheaper than every superhero movie in 2019 except *Shazam*.

This would be great if ticket sales *also* increased with inflation, but they haven’t, they’ve dropped. Across the board, sales are low and budgets are high.

This movie is going to be a failure but I really think it’s time this sub *and* the industry realize that something needs to change economically or this kind of thing is dead in the water.

People are going to point out the success of *Obsession*, but that really isn’t the answer—we don’t *want* movies to be made non-union for so cheap. It’s healthier if the people making the movies get paid, not just the executives who bought the rights—which is what’s happening to *Obsession*.

It’s not grossing its budget . My prediction is around 165 final gross

So a loss of around 80-90ml but I doubt the break even 315 . More likely it’s 450 or even 500

They are trying to reduce the noise around marketing

    18. EcstaticPublic9939 on

There is a chance it will break even, it will be a loss for the studio, because with this budget it should make at least $300M+ to break even and $350M to make a profit, none of these are gonna happen. It should make around $200M-$230M+ final WW

Yikes this will need between 315-340m just to be at breakeven from the theaters, will be tough.

WB probably has to start hoping the backend with the VOD and streaming do really good if they want any type of “success” from this.

Will there come a point where studios look at comic book movies and simply reduce them to one a year that features only the most recognizable characters and then have others put in them so they aren’t taking so many losses on the chin? Looks like a different strategy might need to be implemented in order to reduce cost.

    21. ConstantRefills on

Really was a stupid decision to have Superman and Supergirl in back to back years. They needed to have heavy hitters like Batman and Wonder Woman out the gate before spinning off the minor characters.

    22. How much longer do you think it’ll be before WB knocks on Disney’s door and begs for a DC / Marvel crossover movie? If Avengers underwhelms or underperforms (not that I expect it to), it’s probably more likely than you think.
