When I booked my ticket for IMAX I was one of three, ironically the other two were in the same row
*Backrooms* opening nearly $20m higher than an alien summer blockbuster by Spielberg is crazy to think about. 2026 sure is full of surprises.

I think it might reach $60M-$80M domestic
I’m sure it will go higher closer to release. I bet 50-70 ow domestically.
Gotta see if reviews are released early and strong buzz generates. Anything above $40 million OW is a win for a $115 million budgeted blockbuster.

It’s an upward battle for this. Spielberg’s name definitely doesn’t have the pull it used to, especially among the under-30 crowd. I still want to believe in him, but his last good movie was a decade ago, his last great movie was 14 years ago, and his last great blockbuster was…Saving Private Ryan?
Want to see this hit $50M given the track record of originals, and non franchise hits this year.

That’s not great. It’s getting really good early reactions from critics.
I feel that is low. Yes, it’s a very specific genre film, but it’s a Spielberg film and it’s the summer. The final trailer was very interesting. I think $45-50M is what it’ll get.
Obsession and The Backrooms are definitely stealing the conversation right now. The first trailer for Disclosure Day actually caught my attention a lot, but after that I barely saw any marketing for the movie again.
Hopefully it’s not just another generic alien movie. Funny enough, the government recently declassified UFO/alien-related files and almost nobody cared.

I think its kinda crazy that more people arent excited about a Spielberg alien movie with blunt, O’Connor, and domingo in it. Like yeah the trailers aren’t necessarily blowing my mind but i would not miss this on opening day for basically any reason.
