Families, Not Fanboys, Drove ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ Box Office — and Disney Is Fine with That – The $98 million 4-day opening and $81 million 3-day puts it on par with “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” but it has a much lower budget and other positives.

Disney: “Let’s sugarcoat this.”
they can spin as much as they want but this is not what disney wanted from a memorial day star wars kickoff when they bought the franchise!
The cope is off the chart.
The pessimism surrounding this saga is so forced and also not very constructive. We’ll see how Starfighter and the others go, certainly a project based on the TV series (as Thunderbolts, The Marvels and Cap 4 have also suggested) wasn’t the best way to start again.
Disney cope, just sell it back to Lucas so that we can retcon the past decade of Disney’s failures

Damage control mode

The article highlights Grogu merch and toys as one of the main positives but are those really selling anymore? A quick search on Target shows hardly any items (2 of which are already discounted) and on amazon, I only see a very select few items that have sold close to 1k units in the past month.
Between the mismanagement of ST, Solo, and this movie, Disney has probably missed out on over a billion dollars of pure profit.
They need to find their version of a Feige who can be a sheppard for the IP.

If that’s the case then they really should have started marketing it as more of a family movie long ago. It seemed like it took forever for Disney fully to start promoting this movie and even longer before we got confirmation that is was in fact more of a family film.
