Lionsgate honestly been killing it with their marketing lately ngl
The fact it has a chance to make a billion despite the bad reviews is surreal. I wonder if the Beatles movies will be a financial success as well or will put up pedestrian numbers like the Elton, Dylan, Springsteen, Elvis, Marley etc biopics
Gen Alpha, Gen X or Millennials really know or care about the Beatles and can’t name their songs or albums while MJ’s and Queen’s music are known globally. Think it’ll peform well in the UK and especially with Boomers but struggle internationally outside English speaking markets.
I think MJ is just a special case. Bad reviews or not, it’s been proven time and time again that he draws a lot of interest.
Did I expect the film to be a total blockbuster? No but I knew it would do decently.
His catalog has always sold well. His streaming numbers have always been strong (especially compared to his peers and other legacy acts). People of all ages know of him.
“MJ The Musical” has been a success for a few years now.
All the signs were there.
