Nah, $1 billion will happen.
A billion is more likely than not to happen if Lionsgate/Universal do singalongs next month. I think Lionsgate will do their best to get their first billion-dollar grosser.
It’s gonna hit a billion for sure, right after the Mario movie, which currently is at 964 million and still climbing
Universal and Lionsgate are going to force each of their movies past a billion. Universal will force Mario past it due to it being so close and Lionsgate will force Micheal past a billion. Two billion dollar hits from one month is crazy.
June is when both films are projected to cross said milestone unless Mario suffers a catastrophic drop and goes down to sub 100K on weekdays which most likely won’t happen
Lionsgate can force this movie past $1 Billion if necessary. But I don’t think it will come to that because right now, Michael is comfortably on his path to $1B

It made 704M in less than 4 weeks. A billion is already locked. If u say otherwise ur delusional.
No other biopic made even close to what Michael has made in their first 4 weeks

It’s already projecting $800M by next Sunday. Probably could see it by late June – early July if it continues to exceed projections and before big summer movies come out.
Well, for now I’m sticking with my previous forecast of 920 million.
One thing that worked against it is mediocre performance in Asia, it looks like South Korea also won’t breakout, so in the end it will depend on Japan not flopping like other Asian countries. It is performing very well everywhere else with insanely good holds.

I’m a huge MJ fan so I may be biased when it comes to this movie but numbers don’t lie.

It’s doing amazing rn without the big market Japan. I don’t think it even needs to perform crazy good in Japan in order to hit 1B atp
It’s a slice of life movie grounded in reality that encourages kids to learn a hard skill (I.e music instruments and/or singing) over staring at screens at all.
America is remarkably forgiving about media that promotes ‘good habits’, even if it comes from a controversial messenger.
Parents will take their kids to see this movie thinking it will give jr. a passion for music, or just in general motivate the kid to go outside.
This should make 1 BIL-HE-HE-ION without Japan!!

1B+ is definitely happening.
It should pass 800M+ by the end of Memorial Day weekend.
Japan coming next month!
Don’t be surprised if it ends up passing 1B+ without Japan.
I see it grossing another $200M internationally from just the current markets it’s already opened, as it’s been doing $50M+ internationally for 4 weekends straight due to the resurgence of Michael Mania.
Obvi, the weekends will eventually subside, but you have to keep in mind, it’s still doing ~$20M+ internationally during the weekdays.
So the *current* ceiling pre-Japan opening is ~$970M, assuming a $350M+ domestic finish and ~$620M overseas. Would need $30M in Japan to hit a billy.
All that said, this assumes Lionsgate doesn’t do something dumb AF like schedule PVOD for June 1, though the 45-day mark is June 8. If they rush it out on PVOD pre-billy, it would show that they don’t really care, but the King deserves to be the first biopic to break $1B.
I firmly believe it can reach 1 billion even if Japan underperforms, sing alongs on death anniversary can help a lot. I know I would definitely go.

Tbh Lionsgate and Universal can easily fix this problem by releasing Singalong/Dancealong Screenings. Bohemian Rhapsody had singalong I don’t know why Michael has yet to release them. They would not even need Asia after that
I think it could comfortably make it, as long as the digital release is postponed as much as possible. Also, June marks Michael’s death anniversary, and if there’s something fans truly cherish, it’s experiencing those kinds of moments, remembering the good times with their favorite artist as if they were one big family.
Pacing ahead of Oppenheimer without Japan and Russia at this point. If it doesn’t lose screens too much, it will reach a billion or very close to it. Memorial day in the US is a thing to be on the lookout for
IDK about 1B, but the chances of this blowing off BoRap record as the highest-grossing musician biopic is really high
