Surpassed its predecessor’s 84.4 million cume (granted it was a day-date streaming release during the pandemic).

These numbers needed to be a lot stronger to hit profitability. Unless it pulls in big numbers on HBO Max or scale down the budget, a third film is in jeopardy.

Really should’ve stayed in October. It wouldn’t have had any real competition until Predator: Badlands and wouldn’t have to directly compete with Devil Meets Prada 2 & Michael.

REALLY should have released this sooner where it wouldn’t have had so much competition. Genuinely, if you released this the same weekend as mercy, NOBODY would have gone to see mercy lmao.

bad timing release for international against holdovers.

Goodbye third film and s/o to WB for overconfidently underestimating the release timing and holdovers

Jesus. Should have never moved to Summer. WB got over confident after last year.

This is a good movie though, I’ve done my part to see it

I dont know if they placed It here because they hoped that with the release of The Boys more fans of the show would have come to see It for Karl Urban

    8. On the bright side, it’s the first MK film since the 1995 film to pass $100 million. On the other hand, it just shows how little the franchise mattered outside of English-speaking markets given that even that earlier film was domestic heavy.

Damn. It dropped over 50% internationally this weekend.

      1. wknd: 60M

      2. wknd: 101M

115M+ next week. Let’s see to what extent Memorial Day will help it. 135M+ final for now.

    10. This movie just exists because the previous one performed really good at streaming // home video.

This sequel is also paying for the sins of the previous movie. It’s the ONLY MK movie not rotten on RT and it’s the best reviewed MK movie. It also made more than 100 million worldwide.

While the numbers are far from being good, I’m sure the positive reaction overall and the good audience reviews will help and boost a great performance once it gets released on video demand // streaming, etc…

This sequel is a miracle already. The numbers for the first movie NEVER justified a sequel and here we are. There’s demand for this kind of movie and this movie really gave what a ton of people were asking for.

I wouldn’t rule out a sequel, based on the same arguments for the first movie. This one is performing better with critics and audiences. So, there’s hope.

If a sequel doesn’t happen, I’m happy we finally got a good MK movie that wasn’t roasted by critics, lol.

Deserves better. Was expecting 200M for this in the beginning but now maybe 150 at a push..possibly? Its passed the first film at least……

    12. will this lead to an earlier digital-release? the movie is already on its way out where i live (germany, 2nd week and it is already banned to the smallest screens and late night showings only).
