Disney Is Banking on Baby Yoda to Revive the Star Wars Franchise — The Mandalorian and Grogu, the first new Star Wars film in seven years, will test whether Disney+ TV series can translate to the big screen.
Grogu will sell tickets but that’s not the same as fixing Star Wars. Feels like they’re leaning on nostalgia because the story engine is stuck.

Well, Moana 2 was literally a Disney+ series repurposed for the big screen in an emergency move after Wish bombed, so I think we’ve already proven that.

Only problem is that show has gone to shit, it’s riding off the lows of the most recent season. People have started to not care anymore to the point that fans would rather see a more older grogu that can actually talk, people are done with just more of the same.

Biggest issue is Star Wars isn’t special anymore. In the pursuit of endless content, they’ve dried out the well with safe midquels and bland TV projects.

Given Mando merch sales, this is a sensible, if slightly overeager, plan by Disney.
So what the hell is the plan, then, if Baby Yoda *doesn’t* revive the franchise?
***Is*** there a plan for that? Cause I’m starting to think there really isn’t.

It won’t. It didn’t work with Marvel either.
Tying region-locked content with worldwide released films is never a good move. You’re just forcing people to pirate your shows at this point.

considering how disney already ruined the reputation of the franchise and oversaturated it with content i genuinely doubt that tbh

Casuals don’t know who Grogu is, and the satirical article by The Onion is absolutely correct that this movie would sell more tickets if they called it The Mandorian And Baby Yoda.
