Not too much of a steep budget honestly but breaking even will be tricky

    2. A quite resonable budget for this type of IP (high fantasy, sci-fi mix) but yeah, it’s not an IP that has a large enough audience clamouring for a reboot to recoup a budget that high.

Needs to make over 400 to break even. It’s insane to give a greenlight at this level to a He-Man movie. But in terms of what’s been done, they were very economical with the budget. It does look like a 150+ dollar movie at the very least. So this was as cheap as they could go.

Not as large as I thought, but still makes it a tough climb just to break even.

    5. I keep having hope for these smaller fun adventure films but they keep spending 200 mil on them like idiots

It feels a little late for this movie. It’s only going to appeal to the generation that grew up watching it surely? I know my husband and brother will go because they grew up on this and loved it but will other demographics be interested? I’m
not sure. Feel it might go the same way as the A Team movie went – enjoyable for the og fans but ultimately did not make enough money.

This is gonna be huge here in Brazil. He-man has a huge following here. We even have hit songs about it, believe it or not 😅. The studio got the original guys who dubbed the voices (at least the ones who are still alive).

    8. Woof. Well, I hope there are a lot of excited people born between 1979 and 1983 who are excited about this

I get that the Hollywood business model is that some films are hits, and some lose money, and it all evens out.

But surely it’s not smart business to make movies where it’s physically impossible for them to succeed, like a $170m He-Man movie!?

(leaving aside awards players, where you’re deliberately burning money to buy prestige.. I don’t think this will be on any Oscars prediction lists)

Damn. I don‘t see it becoming a profitable film tbh, regardless of quality.

It might honestly perform similarly to Mortal Kombat II…, I don‘t see it doing well internationally either.

It (Regal Leo UK Productions Limited) spent $32M pounds through the end of 2024 with principal photography, per wikipedia, starting in Jan 2025.

This movie is screwed. Not saying never, but no way this doesn’t lose money.

So the break even point is about $400 million then? No way is it clearing that. If Amazon is expecting this to do gang busters on Prime then fine, but still

    14. I am rooting for Nicholas Galitzine and Idris Elba. I hope He-man can lift the box office like he lifts that sword of power!

    15. Maybe I’m wrong but unless there is some tiktok viral trend there is very little awareness for anyone under 40 for this IP.  And even those that are above 40 don’t seem to be really clamoring for it. On top of all that, the trailer was not great or very exciting.

      Maybe WW gross saves it?
