Rare Deadline highball? I will be shocked if Masters of the Universe makes this much

“Scary Movie has a first choice that’s close to 3x that of Masters of the Universe.” and yet they’re tracking at the same number?

I think Scary Movie is going to overperform this estimate easily. As for Masters of the Universe…I expect decent reviews and a cult following but a poor box office.

Jesus, He-Man, Christ… imo Barbie hit everything well. It was a film that was funny, meme worthy, had great social commentary and very unique + geared on a demographic we’re finding out goes watch movies a lot.
He-Man looks like… just another fantasy CGI flick from a nostalgic toy fad that died out in the late 80’s? This has disaster all over it.

Hot take but I think Scary Movie will open to $60M

Way too low for Scary Movie.

Generalizing and exaggerating, who exactly are these films aimed at? One title belongs to a genre that was relatively good 20 years ago but then quickly died out; the other belongs to a narrative universe that has never been renewed in 50 years.

I’m aware that Amazon doesn’t operate like other studios and claim they’re fine with films not “breaking even” in theaters.
But as *Masters of the Universe* cost $170M-$200M, it’s hard to consider numbers like these a win. It should be opening to $50 million at least to avoid embarrassment.

Does Deadline just mean 35m for opening night, or is this supposed to be the whole opening weekend?

That result is great for the Wayans, and just *horrific* for He-Man. Starting to see why Amazon is sending even more niche franchise *Voltron* straight to Prime. Maybe if they’re lucky, everything *Project Hail Mary* made won’t be immediately nuked by this new disaster.

Both movies are gonna have a less per screen average than a YouTube video that releases in theaters that weekend lol.

Scary Movie doesn’t have the price tag. It wins either way.
