Wait….what the fuck?????? Wasn’t this supposed to be better than the first???

    2. TheFlashyMastodon21 on

Honestly surprised it’s lower than 2021 considering it seems to be more of what people actually wanted from that movie

Lower Than the first (B+), 1995 got an A-, Annihilation got a C+

So apparently critics enjoy it more than the first, but not audiences on Cinemascore?

    5. Alive-Ad-5245 on

That’s… lower than expected given the RT score. Maybe odd sampling?

Still fine for an R-Rated movie in any case.

The RT audience score is not aligning with the cinemascore. Whats going?!

I read that either fanbase or general audiences didn’t like it enough to have legs this weekend. I thought new line and deadline were downballing but now I think it’ll go in the low end of projections.

Can’t take this seriously when the 2021 movie got a better rating despite being a much worse movie. Cinemascore doesn’t mean anything anymore.

As for the 95 movie, that wasn’t rated R.

I’m seeing all kinds of people from both sides of the aisle liking this movie, including both leftwing and rightwing youtubers with millions of followers. My packed house audience loved it and clapped at the end.

That’s surprising. This got better reception than the first. What’s the skeptics behind this?

    10. More_Preparation9507 on

Wow that’s surprising. I personally found it way better than the first movie.

Warner Bros is extremely stupid for hiring the terrible director on the first Kombat. It is filmed terribly, and the tone is off, with characters just popping up to pander to the worst of fans. The contrived attempts at comedy with Johnny Cage and Kano are cringeworthy, also. The score is not surprising because the title’s filmmaking is so bad that it is not going to appeal to anyone outside of the most repulsive of fanboys

Everyone in this thread is having the same reaction and opinion about this.

      Kinda funny, ngl.

This shit doesn’t make sense, pretty much everyone agrees it’s better than the first. May just be a weird batch of a cinemascore

    14. Weak legs domestically and probably even weaker legs overseas. This franchise gonna get Cole Young’ed after this movie

Hindsight 20/20, this should have been the FIRST film. With Cage being the newcomer instead of the OG char from the first film.

Something has changed with cinemascore since at least early 2025. Everything is at least one level lower compared to previous numbers if we look at posttrak and RT.

    17. Impossible_Log9234 on

99% of people have no idea what CinemaScore even is. It’s irrelevant. This is a pretty good film (not perfect by any means), and the RT audience score reflects that.

    18. Fans of Cole Young got polled,  I guess. Maybe some people disliked how the movie treats the main character this time, lol.

    19. Own-Atmosphere-962 on

It seems that the audiences once again made a critical f***, but in reverse.

    20. Inevitable-Owl-315 on

People in the comments coping with this cinemascore need to accept that a movie with tons of other weak entries thats been critiqued on it subpar writing surrounding its story/characters, and also bloody and violent was not going to score high in this metric. Legs will pan out like predator badlands if I had to guess.

    21. This is the best reviewed MK movie on RT. It was amazing. Audience scores also good.

The B Cinemascore is less about the quality of the movie and more about expectations.

This is promoted as a Johnny Cage film but in reality it’s a Kitana movie mostly. The tournament is here, but at some point there’s a side quest that takes the spotlight from the tournament.

Many characters bite the dust, including some big characters from the games and the first movie. So that might have alienated some people. It’s called Mortal kombat, so people should get used to death. Nobody is safe.

All in all, a great movie that I loved.

Massive shock, is there anyone else that actually preferred the first movie?
