Daily Box Office (May 6th 2026)

The market hits ¥38.7M/$5.68M. Down -61% from yesterday and up +118% from last week.

Mortal Kombat II opening day pre-sales hit $60k for Friday. Projected a $0.35-0.51M opening day into what should be a $1.5M-ish opening weekend. With Saturday being a work day the odds are stacked against it from the start. Lets see if it can make an impression and do better than projected.

Dear You drops just -26% from yesterday. The only sub -50% drop in the top 10 showcasing the 9.7 scores on Maoyan and Tao aswell as the impressive 9.0 on Douban doing work. Total projections rise to ¥200M/$30M

One thing to note is that were less than a month from Childrens day on June 1st and there's not really been any movies announced for the date yet. Especialy Animated movies. Doraemon used to be a staple for this day but with the temporary ban on Japanese imports it remains to be seen what animated movie will fill that gap.

I can imagine how worried theaters in China must be, these weak numbers have been like this for weeks.
