The first film in the series to be rated Fresh on RottenTomatoes. It’s where the franchise started to get better.

Who would have imagine that this film would have plot relevance in the final reckoning.

While Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol took the franchise to a new high, I think Mission: Impossible III really saved it, especially after Mission: Impossible 2 gave the series a bad reputation. It has the franchise’s best villain, great action, sharp direction, and it looks fantastic, even if the plot is only okay (to be fair, I think the mystery box storytelling works well here).

Say what you will about J. J. Abrams, but I’ll give him a lot of credit for helping revive the series. It’s even more impressive considering this was his feature directorial debut. Apparently, Tom Cruise wanted him after being impressed by Alias.

Cruise’s public image took a hit around then, and it 100% affected the drop from II.

While people would like to blame MI2 for this but the real reason(which most people dont admit) was that this had no moments. People go to watch MI films for fun and this wasn’t nearly as fun as MI2. 4-6 are obviously the greatest action blockbusters of all time, no question about that. 7 and 8 had their moments but were just too long and the franchise became all about “what insane shit TC gonna pull now”

    6. Philip Seymour Hoffman was incredible in this movie as the villain, too bad the writing wasn’t. Not a fan of the mystery box aspect here and some of the dialogue is terrible. The part where Ethan is grieving Lindsey and says she was like a sister and then Luther jokes “you never slept with your little sister” is probably the worst dialogue exchange in the whole franchise besides anything in MI2 because that’s just in a league of its own. Leave it to Abrams and his buddies to add a incest/sex joke in a scene right after a young woman’s head explodes and Ethan is grieving her.

at least it was not as bad as the dumpster fire that was Mission: Impossible 2.

Haha! JJ Abrams directed Tom Cruise 20 years ago! now he’s directing Tom Cruise’s lil buddy Glen Powell in a upcoming movie now! How funny!, Jenna Ortega is in it too? Hollywood is truly running out of actors, just the same handful of people are cast in everything. Tom Cruise may be a crazy Scientologist nut but at least he doesn’t overexpose himself in the market, starring in 5 movies a year!

but yeah…. this is my 2nd least fave of the whole franchise…. Ghost Protocol is where the franchise really STARTS for me, love 4 to 6 and I like 7 and 8 despite some issues with them.
