Was it worth it in the end? Maybe from a financial perspective, but Goodwill might have been tainted, all that can be hoped for is a Well Received Scream 8 to put back the flow. (Please don’t turn this comment section into a fight)

It was absolutely worth it. It’s a huge success, regardless of it’s reception. Remember, Scream 3 was heavily panned at the time of release. But people have softened on it over the years. Any movie that makes money for the franchise is still worth it. And even this installment, which so many people consider terrible, is still leagues above so many horror movies that are getting released.
I love this “saga” series.
So far, nothing topped “The Flash” saga.
It obviously was worth it. It banked.
Highest grossing in the entire franchise and pushes the story forward. Yes it was.
It had its problems (tripling down on the ridiculous amount of plot armor we also saw in the previous two, the reveal being weak and glossing over what the love interest was doing), but overall it’s nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be.
The only thing I wish it had was a cliffhanger with a killer surviving or escaping at the end. They haven’t done that yet.
I don’t get the lovefest for the Carpenters (especially considering the fact that the original script had Sam as the killer). I liked the movies, but their story was told and it’s over.
It’s the highest grossing film and the only one to pass the original in 30 years. Regardless of the mixed reaction on quality, it was financially worth it. Kept the franchise going, proved their lead star was still a draw, survived losing the Barrera/Ortega duo. Pretty much guaranteed a sequel.
Of course it was worth it in the end, considering the massive success it achieved. It faced online vitriol every step of the way, yet it still became the highest grossing film in the franchise and second highest grossing slasher film in history.
Also, if you’re including Jenna Ortega later revealing why she really left, then you should probably add that Christopher Landon later revealed the real reason he quit was [because Melissa Barrera fans were threatening to murder him, his husband, and their two elementary age children.](https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/story/christopher-landon-drop-scream-arachnophobia?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=dhtwitter&utm_content=null)
This movie is way too ahead of its time. Just like Scream 3 and 4. That’s why critics and audiences disliked it. People don’t appreciate (or understand) its genius, but they will, in a decade or two.
AI and unhealthy parasocial relationships don’t exist in 2026. But by the time Gen Alpha is in their 20s, people will have a better appreciation for Scream 7.
They made the right decision firing Melissa Barrera for her racist comments. The Scream franchise is much better with Neve Campbell.
I get why people are saying it was worth it, but I think something to keep in mind is that they didn’t want to pay Neve what she felt she was deserved for Scream 6. They walked that back for S7 because of them firing Melissa. So, now Neve has them over a barrel financially. They need and have to have her. She can ask what she wants and they have to pay it because the franchise has no one else as the face.
Dude what planet are you living on. It made a ton of money and fans liked it. What other reason is there to make the SEVENTH movie in a franchise
Wait toss last year’s scream 6 (?), filmed in MTL acting like NYC, was made in parallel?
