I’m not rooting for this movie. It’s poor quality and deserves the reduced gross from the first movie.

Nice that it’s near as expected for its 5th weekend as its daily numbers will be below $1M beginning this Monday along with weekdays; while Tuesday discounts might have a shot of $1M, it should hold well on its 6th weekend even though with The Sheep Detectives making its debut as another family movie option

tangentially related, here’s a snippet from a recent interview with miyamoto where he addressed the movie’s botched pacing:

      >[“Another approach is to create things using small, partial units. For example, 30 units of 3 minutes each make up 90 minutes. And it’s very similar to my own method; I don’t make anything unnecessary, but I hardly throw anything away either. So, Illumination’s technique involves a lot of swapping and rearranging of those units, creating something with incredible density. Another thing is, for example, parents sitting there out of a sense of responsibility for taking their children to the movie theater, or a story that’s moving for the parents but the children are running around the theater. I’ve always wanted to make a movie that isn’t like that, so in that sense, I think it was good that we decided to make it a fast-paced 90 minutes that would be over in no time to catch your breath.”](https://nintendoeverything.com/nintendo-explains-why-the-super-mario-galaxy-movie-is-so-fast-paced/)

this movie’s performance is still great, but with it going down in almost every market from the first one, this strategy isn’t gonna work forever — not just for the mario movies, but for any nintendo movie that miyamoto’s heavily involved with
