It’s wild how much of touring is just breaking even unless you’re huge mad respect to artists like her making it work.

I also think it’s worth mentioning booking inappropriately sized venues for artists. You would see more ticket sales if you booked smaller venues; an artist like Meghan Trainor should have never had MSG on their tour stops. She’s far from being the only artist to do this too.

honestly 40% for manager and agent is crazy wtf. absolutely no chance 2 people are worth that much.

Okay but the underlying issue is that Megan Trainor wasn’t selling tickets, and that was no where in her cancellation explanation

Over the next coming years as other artists will have to do this too, I’m sure they won’t be met with the same ire that Meghan Trainor is getting.

Would honestly kill for a low key stage setup. Have a barstool and mic and just sing, play guitar or whatever and just vibe to the music and interact with the audience.

Prince, Tribe Called Quest and Matthew Knowles as well as a host of other artist have broken down the economics of music for decades. It’s really important that artist get lawyers before they take any money or sign anything with record labels. The only way you make money is from writing and owning your music (publishing and licensing) or selling merchandise. Everything else belongs to the record companies. It’s why so many artists fight for their masters.

  8. As someone who has made a living for the last 12 years touring…. She’s spot on. My last tour ended at the beginning of march, and I can’t tell you how good it felt to cancel my clear, my airline CC, etc.
I’m done, glad to be home…
Now to figure out how to pay the bills.
    Woof.

As much as I love taking advantage of it, maybe we need to reexamine giving everyone the ability to have practically all music that has ever been made in their pocket for $10 bucks a month.

100 years ago music was something you literally HAD to go due if you wanted to consume it.
