Pretty much the same grade as the Early Access screening.
Compared to Antoine Fuqua’s films:

– *Southpaw (2015):* A
– *The Magnificent Seven (2016):* A–

– *The Equalizer 3 (2023):* A
And compared to other music biopics:
– *Coal Miner’s Daughter (1980):* A

– *La Bamba (1987):* A
– *The Doors (1991):* B+
– *Selena (1997):* A
– *Ray (2004):* A+

Surprised it held that well from the early shows. I think it will have legs

Would’ve been hilarious if the score either went up or down. Missed opportunity 😔

Somehow both the “rating is going down to a B+” arguers and the “rating is going up to an A” arguers are disappointed.

The Wednesday early access people dragged it down honestly because the scores from Thursday on would’ve been a secure A and the only time the score indicates an A- was when we got the scores from the Wednesday crowd. Interesting. Still a good score in the end. The question is still how well this breaks out beyond his fanbase after this weekend. I think it can, we just have to wait and see.

Stayed right on the money from the early shows.

The more things change, the more they stay the same

Would’ve been funnier if it changed but I guess we are stuck with the boring outcome. Below Bohemian Rhapsody’s A and same as Elvis.

So some general audiences are clearly disappointed in it, as the hardcore Jackson fans would inflate the score higher. And you can’t say the Jackson haters who believe he was a CM review bombed it since they likely would have boycotted the movie anyway and had no effect on the Cinemascore.

Just saw it.
Very rushed, super anti climactic ending and actual story meh. However, performances were all great especially by Jaafar and music set pieces were outstanding and thats what people will remember the most

Saw it this Friday and… i thought it was mediocre. Everything was bland as hell and felt rushed. Even as MJ biopic, I don’t think it shows how of a unique artist he was, and how he changed the industry.I think it might explain the score, maybe not most fans, i believe some be disappointed by the movie.
With that being said i think it’s safe enough to have some legs
Hhm… I see underwhelming legs in the future of this one

Dang that Postrack data from yesterday definitely suggested an A or A+. Odd

Seems fair enough!

Here’s why I think this won’t affect legs: A- is because of the anti climatic ending. It just ends out of nowhere, with a ‘His Story Continues’ super. People expecting to see more of Michael’s life will be disappointed. This CinemaScore, IMO, is purely a reflection of how people feel about the last 30 seconds.
