1)Unsuprisingly the list is dominated by Disney

2)Warners is the only major studio to not have a movie in the top 20(they will never enter this list since the bar is only gonna rise by end of decade)

3)Original Runs for people who are interested:

Title Original All
Titanic 340M 416M
Avatar 289M 313M
ET 208M 250M
Jurassic Park 200M 211M
Lion King(1994) 179M 202M
Star Wars: A New Hope 166M 258M

4)Star Wars: ANH added almost 100M admits with re releases, extremely impressive

5)Future Movies locked for Top 20: Avengers 5 & 6, Frozen 3 & 4

6)Very likely to enter top 20: Incredibles 3, Coco 2

7)What predictions you guys have for future movies(any hot takes)?

8) Gone with the wind isnt included because there's almost no data reported for older movies. The data here is for movies where accurate data is available

9)Sources: Calculations made by CharlieJat(BOT), u/AgentCooper315, InsideKino,Lumiere, u/Firefox72 for China data & u/AsunaYuuki837373 for Korea data

Holy shit, thank you for actually doing it correctly and not just “gross/ATP of that year.”

u/AgentCooper315 would be proud of you

Ne Zha 2 is the craziest shit I’ve ever seen, there’s this bit where he pees in an old guys mouth

  3. It’s fake

Avatar is actually more than tht, and avengers is really less

Maybe marvel is trying to hype the next avengers film by fake numbers, ( endgame tickets were very expensive) thts totally fake data

Avatar ran like a year continuously everywhere it has more ticket sale!!

Crazy to me ANH is so high. I don’t know if anyone nowadays can comprehend how insane the Stars Wars mania must’ve been in 1977

  5. I’m going to state the obvious, Gone With The Wind is the most attended movie of all time globally (inclusive of all releases).

  6. Films like gone with the wind regularly top the inflation adjusted charts. We’re you able to look at admissions for old films?

This is a situation where not adjusting for population inflation gives new movies a huge advantage. For example, when ET premiered the world population was 4.6, now it’s 8.3. And this is before factoring in the increased accessibility of movies worldwide.

Using Gone With The Wind as an example, an estimated 200 million tickets were sold in its initial run in the US alone. That’s 10% of the world’s population, once again not even counting overseas or re-releases.

These sorts of lists are quite shallow

  8. Holla! I LOVE this OP I have always wanted to know more about tickets sold rather than revenue as you can easily see the same film on the same weekend for £20 in one cinema and for £6 in another cinema round the corner in the UK

    a couple of questions

    1) can you explain the data sources? I see who has made the calcs?
    2) have you considered overlaying this information with population size so you could see what proportion of the population saw each film?

  9. Force awakens if I remember was number 11 years ago next too Snow White. This list might not. Have the correct data.

  10. A lot of movies from pre 1980s time are not present on that list which makes it pretty much irrelevant.

Inflation/ticket estimates is always a big guessing game, but I still love seeing stuff like this for scales sake
