Magnolia Pictures’ Normal grossed an estimated $1M on Friday from 2,153 locations ($464 per theater average).

They couldn’t have chosen a more boring movie title than normal..absolute zero iq..

Actually enjoyed this one. Wonder if Odenkirk is trying to manifest an “elevated dad fare” genre, kind of like an anti-Jason Statham.

Throwbacks to old westerns and hard boiled HK cinema. I get that the clash of genres has not been well received, but the discordance actually added to my enjoyment.

The movie is rife with atavisms. Odenkirk’s character is clearly meant to be a modern day Odysseus (he’s a perennial wanderer and his name is Ulysses).

I chuckled when Odenkirk told one of his deputies that he would “retire to his boudoir”.

That seems awful for over 2,100 theatres.
