It still made money and is a major attraction at Disney parks. Disney is generally happiest when a movie is both a money maker and the franchise can be a marquee part of Disney Lands/World.

Listen. Even if this came way below the last one, this is still a 1.5B movie and that can’t be ignored.
20th Century has nothing that can come close to this and Disney knows this. They will continue to make them even if they have to find ways to make them a bit cheaper.
And they have a damn park. That will always make it worth it. Even Tron gets movies still because of it.

Theyre talking to theater owners. Theater owners see 1.5 billion dollars and they think butts in seats, big concession sales etc. This along with their slate of films that have made over a billion dollars is telling them ‘look how much how films make. Look how much revenue we can provide you if you play our films’. Disney probably still isnt happy with the results but individual theater owners are

Its still profitable despite lower than Avatar 2, its just the loud minority that say its disappointed

According to box office mojo, it’s still stuck at $1.486b with absolutely zero hope of crossing $1.5b..disney trying to cook the numbers..

No. Disney hates making profit in cinemas. They hate even more that they built Avatar lands and the worst performing Avatar made as much as The Avengers. They are livid.

Avatar 3 flopped and Disney is still showing it off. Shows how down bad they are

but the movie just barely made 400M domestic. this franchise needs to pull more money domestic than international to greenlit another sequel.
i think if they do another one then it barely pass 300M domestic.

I really can’t see how it’s not profitable at $1.5 billion, even if the marketing budget was absolutely bonkers. With the Pandora parks and all that on top of it, it’s just got to be a moneymaker. I have a feeling Jim’s comments about 4 and 5 are more to do with his own cold feet about dedicating so much more of his life to 4 & 5, I think his motivation to do it might have changed over the years.

1.5 billion is a disappointment? From one film?
KingMario05 on
Yes, but not overjoyed. Jim still has to make the next one for less. Quite a bit less.

Cinemacon is about showing new projects, not showing off.

I don’t think the movie needed to make over $2 billion to be considered a success. I’m sure they were hoping it got that high, but $1.5 billion is nothing to scoff at.

If you aren’t happy about making 1.5 billion, then you shoud not be business.

Why would 1.5 billion be a disappointment? It’s 1.5 billion dollars
