It’s kind of sad how badly Regé-Jean Page’s idea of leaving Bridgerton to become a movie star has played out

Disappointing numbers, but it’s a really cute movie. I enjoyed it! It was fun theater experience and the got a lot of laughs.

This is the type of movie that blows up on streaming, so I think it will do really well once it hits a streamer. I could see it doing really well on Netflix or Prime.

  3. Didn’t a film maker say her projects weren’t going to go through because studious were waiting to see how this movie did before greenlighting it and urged everyone to go and see it.

I feel like that put unfair pressure on this movie but I guess that’s just how business works.

Doesn’t bode well that The Drama on it’s second weekend still outpaced this by 700k. Earning back it’s budget is probably about the best it can hope for at this point.

Before I say this please know that I am a monoracial Black woman so I’m not saying this from the standpoint of not knowing all the ins and outs of everything. You’re free to disagree obviously but I’m just giving my thoughts on this situation. I was hoping for a One of Them days style opening but that wasn’t to be. You Me & Tuscany opening up lower than The Drama’s second weekend shows you the difference between Zendaya’s and Halle Bailey’s star power. Halle Bailey is cute and likable and I wish her all the luck in the world. The racism that she went through with The Little Mermaid was despicable and I’ll always hope for the best for her for that very reason but the Little Mermaid was not a good movie. It made a lot of money in North America but it wasn’t a star making movie or performance in my humble opinion. As a matter of fact even outside of race these big Disney live action productions don’t seem to further the careers of any of these actresses to any big degree. That’s not to say that these women don’t have success because obviously they do but people always talk about being cast as lead in these roles as if they’re going to suddenly turn the ladies into superstars and that has not happened, not even to the white actress. Anyway I hope the movie has long legs. Let’s face it, the international is not going to be there for this movie so it needs like a 5.0 multiplier in North America.

Under Little’s second weekend of $8.3M which was a black comedy targeting female audiences that opened in the same corridor back in 2019

Goes to show how much the theatrical climate has changed for comedies

Disappointing those opening weekend numbers which has to find good legs to break even or else those terrible legs would finish around $25M DOM as overseas numbers isn’t going to help

  8. Bummer that it didn’t have a bigger opening, hopefully I’ll be able to watch it this week.
