The marketing for this movie has not been great and the more photos you see of the nephew, the less he looks like MJ. MJ’s popularity will carry this.

People are predicting huge numbers and this will do big numbers, but remember the biggest musical biopic made $250 million in America off a $50 million opening

I doubt this’ll open that huge, but could leg well enough

Does anyone know how much Bohemian rhapsody opened with? How would this compare?

    4. Okay, for starters, Deadline is incorrect about the record. *Straight Outta Compton* has the best music biopic debut at $60.2 million, not *Bohemian Rhapsody* ($51M).

Second, this aligns with what the trackers at Box Office Theory are seeing the film. Not exactly showing a blockbuster opening. Obviously, there’s still 3 weeks to go and things can change, but it hasn’t performed “fantastic” for now. If it opens just a little above *Bohemian* with a much higher budget ($155M), that’d be very disappointing.

$55M is still very good, but I believe walk-ups/last week business will be massive to where it overperforms a bit, and overseas will do most of the work.

Yeah. I’m a huge Michael Jackson fan but I was always thinking 45-55 opening and then it legs out to 200-250 and makes about 500-600 WW.

    7. It’s going to be a walk up heavy film, so I expect it to be higher, just not the billion dollar grosser that many people thought. Musical biopics just don’t make that much with the exception of Bohemian Rhapsody, which is looking more and more like a fluke.
