Sample Reviews:
William Bibbiani, TheWrap – 'The Breadwinner' has more stale corny bits than a Kellogg’s factory dumpster.
Frank Scheck, The Hollywood Reporter – The Breadwinner is so lazy and laid-back that it practically recedes into itself. This is a film that makes television shows like Father Knows Best and My Three Sons seem edgy.
Matt Schimkowitz, AV Club C- – Bargatze’s commitment to “clean” comedy, which is to say, material that is inoffensive to white upper-class suburbanites, means defanging whatever bite Breadwinner might otherwise have.
Alison Foreman, IndieWire C+ – For the most part, Appel wisely avoids pushing Nate toward overly heightened emotional territory — instead, treating Bargatze’s deadpan confusion like its own immutable law of physics inside the silly world of The Breadwinner.
Natalia Winkelman, Variety – Select moments may land a laugh, but zoom out a little, and the real joke is that this movie was made in 2026.
SYNOPSIS:
Starring record-breaking comedian Nate Bargatze in his first feature film, The Breadwinner is a family comedy that follows the misadventures of Nate Wilcox, whose wife Katie (Mandy Moore) lands a once-in-a-lifetime deal on Shark Tank that takes her on a prolonged business trip – and now the lifelong breadwinner has to fend for his family as a first-time stay-at-home dad. damn, you mean to tell me that the movie with a brilliant, modern premise such as “what if dad take care of kids instead of mom, isn’t that wacky?” is ***bad***?
Yikes
Holy shit lol

can’t say I’m surprised. when I watched the trailers I thought the movie looked like a complete turd.
omg what if the DAD had to take care of kids???? OMG so funny ahhhh

Comedy in stand up vs in movies are two different beasts. Just ask Jo Koy.
The Nate Rate will push this to massive success. Will eventually outgross The Mandalorian and Grogu.
Didn’t see this one coming /s
OOF… that really bad those reviews for a comedy film for a kids film about a Dad
The Nate Rate isn’t saving this at all
Was obvious stinker from the trailer lol
Just watch Mr Mom on Tubi…better film, same joke
Who could’ve figured out that comedy detailing how wacky and wild it is for a man to take care of his kids doesn’t really sit well in 2026
I’m just happy I don’t have to sit through the terrible trailer again.
I look forward to never seeing trailers for this product placement vehicle disguised as a film again. I wish Nate Bargatze well and look forward to seeing him once a year on a slightly above average SNL episode after this tanks and he retreats to standup.
Not shocking.
A milquetoast non-cursing MAGA-LITE comedian putting this kind of movie together is as expected as waking up in San Diego with the sun shining.
The trailer looked pretty bad, so I can’t say I’m surprised by these ratings
Not surprising at all. Trailer looked like ass.
