Lilo & Stitch (2025) was released last year this week. Serving as a remake of the 2002 film, it was originally set to be released directly on Disney+ before shifting to a theatrical release. Despite receiving mixed to positive reception, it grossed $423.8M Dom & $1.038B WW.

This was a pretty good Disney remake in my opinion. Stitch’s antics is cute as always, the new ending worked for me, and still has the heart and (some of the) charm of the original film.

It could’ve used some more Elvis though.

If I had a nickel for every time Disney marketed a May release around the cuteness of a colorful alien with long ears, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice

    3. I know we all talk about culture footprint and how it’s such a hard thing to quantify and who even determines it but it really is such a testament to how factory-line Disney has become that this can make a billion and if I wasn’t a follower of the box office, I wouldn’t have remembered this came out. A month after this was out – I saw no chatter about this, positive or negative. (Though I saw more negative when this was at its “peak”).

File this in with Moana 2 as one of the most forgettable billion dollar films ever

Still one of the better live-action Disney remakes – and I know that I’m an Asian male, but I didn’t find that ending THAT problematic considering whose family Lilo ended up with.

how tf do you get “Lilo gets taken by ICE!” from her choosing to stay with her very trusted neighbors as her sister heads out to college

Completely fell short of catching up Minecraft as the highest grossing film of 2025 domestically until finally Zootopia 2 manage to top Minecraft

Although its worldwide numbers did really well then Minecraft thanks to Latin America that the Lilo and Stitch merchandise is so popular

    7. Was alright I guess, didn’t mind seeing it in theaters. some fun moments and some questionable decisions. The original is a classic but I didn’t mind this, I actually like Lilo’s design a lot in this, and Chris Sanders does a good voicing him again.
