Unfortunately, this turned out to be the worst film in the franchise (though many, including myself, would dispute this). Kind of shame too because visually, it was honestly an improvement over the previous film.
Joachim Rønning has a very unusual filmography: one film nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, three sequels to Disney franchises (all three considered meh), and a decent sports movie in the style of the 2000s disney
Let’s see if the franchise continues; they’re going to honor Bruckheimer at D23 and name him a Disney Legend, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they take the opportunity to confirm the new movie.
My logic , if I see Johnny Depp on a poster = i go to the theater . Except for the Curse of Black Pearl, I haven’t missed a single Pirates of the Caribbean movie in theaters.
The fact the 2017 was 9 years ago doesn’t sit right with me. If the sequel gets the original band back together, it’s gonna be *huge*.
Such a dissappintment. I liked it on release but certain elements didnt sit well and upon rewatch it really is the worst pirates movie. Filmentos POTC videos are his best and he perfectly describes why I dont like 4 or 5.
Box office wise it is interesting how it clearly still has such a strong overseas audience though. I imagine that’s the whole reason they are still attempting a 6th film even though they kinda fucked up all the possible avenues to do it .
I really need to go to bed, but I despise this film so much that I’m going to take the time to type out what I need to say.
Fuck this movie. Fuck the characterization of Jack Sparrow in this movie. Fuck it’s blatant disregard to the canon of the previous films. Fuck the horrible legacy writing. Fuck how misleadingly good the [first trailer](https://youtu.be/jqftOTvYYd8?si=Zjvon8sx2P99dNnN) was. Fuck the half-assed attempt at bringing Davy Jones back in a post credit scene like this is some MCU film. Fuck the wasting of Javier Bardem. Fuck this movie and erase it from existence please and thank you.
Edit: Main and perhaps the only positive is that it is quite visually stunning at times. But that just makes everything else feel even worse when it could’ve looked good and felt good
Am I the only one that liked this movie??
It had flaws but it did not bore me and was a good watch 🤐
Set Joachim Ronning on his Disney director for hire track (this, Malificent 2, and Tron: Ares), where seemingly thats all he can do anymore, (despite the quite good Young Woman and the Sea in the middle which sadly made no money and got no awards buzz).
The story of Barbossa and the girl was the best part of the movie.
If they get Depp, Bloom, Knightley and Rush for this movie, it will gross over a billion. Nostalgia for this type of movie is huge and if done right this will be a smash hit. T
The only thing they need to have in check is the budget, but I don’t see how they would do this for less than $300 million.
It was a terrible movie and makes 4 look like Dead Man’s Chest.
