1)These are the top 20 original movies of all time, only one movie from this decade and we are already in 2026.
2)The 10th movie of this list is Hi Mom which a is a chinese original movie,it is the only movie from this decade on this list. Could not find a proper english title card for it, do let me know if i missed any other chinese movie. Ne Zha & Wandering earth are adaptations as far as i know.
3)James Cameron and Disney rule this list.
4)Last two decades were incredible for original movies, we haven't had a hollywood original movie make even $500M this decade.
5)If Hexed has that disney magic i think it could enter this list, the boxoffice also seems to be on a great run this year.
6)Encanto definitely would have been on this list if not for covid.
7)Ono Ghost market could be the asian equivalent of Coco/Encanto i see potential for it and it has a good director.
8)Disclosure day would need a lot of luck if it wishes to enter this list.
9)Some people may object to it but Frozen has very little in common with the snow queen except having a person with ice powers. Its an original for all intents and purposes
10)Sorry i missed Independence Day($818M), which would put it at 11th position kicking out the Incredibles

Let’s hope not this year! Maybe in coming years we will have it.
Holding out lots of hope for Gatto after Hoppers did solid.
Insane that the original Secret Life of Pets made more than both the original Inside Out and Moana
If the third one ever sees the light of day (was announced 4 years ago but no news since) I don’t see Secret Life of Pets having anywhere near the same nostalgia as those two
Honestly, that is difficult to say.
I see the biggest potential in animated films.
Kpop Demon Hunters could have been able to enter this list, but unfortunately, that one is a streaming franchise now.
Pixar’s Gatto and Ono Ghost Market may surprise us, let’s see.
What’s movie 10?
And again, as you have pointed out, Disney is dominating this list.
People are really drawn to their work, huh? Impressive.
Number 3 is based
It’s kind of crazy that there are 60+ movies that made a billion dollars, but when you strip away any established franchising that number drops to 4. I knew we’d lose a lot, but I wouldn’t have guessed that many.
2012 is a surprise to me
To this day, every Avatar character and line is well known by masses around the globe. The only franchise that can barely claim the same success is star wars.
The lion king is Hamlet
Project hail mary should already be on the list
Forzen based on snow queen
Lion king is hamlet
Hi mum is a bio pic about Jia Ling (the dircted mum
Moana us based on the meth of maui

This is meaningless, as you need to adjust for inflation to give a clear view of how historical films actually performed. Gone With The Wind would be 1st by a large margin.
Nezha 2019 made 700M$
🤓☝️ frozen isn’t “original”
Only chance for one entering this decade will be if Disney/Pixar find a runaway hit
frozen was not a original film it is based on the novel the snow queen.
It’s doubtful Hi Mom can be counted as an original film. It’s adapted from a sketch (although it’s still made by the director/writer/lead actress Jia Ling herself.
The Battle at Lake Changjin is missing which earned $913M.
Titanic obviously isn’t an original movie
Strange that “biopics” and the like aren’t on here. Something like Oppenheimer, while an adaptation in a sense, is technically “original” since it’s a biopic in ways. History is history with filling in the blanks.
2012 making that much is genuinely insane looking at it from a 2026 point of view. Was it looked at as an over performance even then or was that kind of expected?
Original movies today will find it harder to make it on the list since almost all of ’em are being straightly dumped on streaming. Ig Disney/Pixar has the highest chance to make an original breakout hit in theaters today, since they send their movies in cinemas first then dump on streaming later. Other studios won’t even try no more.
Hurts me to see ET so low.
Project Hail Mary?
