Assuming this does similar business, safe to say we’ll get Dragon 3 live action in June 2029. Though I do think this date needs to moved considering summer next year is just way too fucking packed
Interested to see how this performs, considering animated HTTYD 2 was the highest grossing in the franchise until the remake outgrossed it ($621m < $636m).
Disney’s remake sequels all decreased from their predecessor: Through the Looking Glass, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, and Mufasa: The Lion King. Main reason is the novelty is gone.
However, I think the HTTYD 2 remake could outgross the first, considering the animated version is an excellent film, and Dean DeBlois did a pretty faithful adaptation of the first, leaving audiences satisfied.
Edit: God, I’m not ready for *that* scene with Cate Blanchett and Gérard Butler.

That‘s great!
It should do well…, but I‘m still worried Disney may announce Tangled for June 18, 2027 (Pixar‘s Gatto was there previously). Seems unlikely, but you never know with Disney. They did crazier things.
JUNE 2027:
June 11 – How To Train Your Dragon 2
June 18 – Beyond The Spider-Verse + Tangled
Disney might be waiting to see how Moana does first, before deciding what to do…, but let‘s not forget how they announced the release date for Lilo & Stitch (May 2025) really late…, the same thing could happen with Tangled.
BTSV and Tangled could definitely work well with each other, since they are totally different, but that duo could hurt HTTYD 2 in its 2nd weekend, similarly to Mission Impossible 7 with Barbie/Oppenheimer.
Plus, Dishey already announced Lilo & Stitch 2 for May 2028 (and Incredibles III for June 2028)…, why should they have TWO live-action remakes within the same year? And 2029 seems too late.

Shrek is next, isn’t it?

I love the animated series. Are the live actions any good?
