Daily Box Office (May 8th 2026)
The market hits ¥35.0M/$5.01M. Up +3% from yesterday and down -78% from last week.
Mortal Kombat II opens with a rather unspectacular $0.35M. Weekend projections drop to just $1.4-1.5M. Total projections drop to $4-5M
Dear You goes from strenght to strenght with another +14% today compared to yesterday and an insane +22% from last weeks Labor Day. Again the only movie in the top 10 to increase. Douban score rises from an already insane 9.0 to 9.1. 2nd weekend now projected at ¥50M-58M/$7.3M-8.5M and the movie has a good chance to be on top on Sunday. Total projections climb to over ¥300M+/$44M+.
The performance is even more impressive when you consider the movie is primarly in the Teochew dialect that is only really used in 1 region.

LOL they really put up a poster because the review went up 0.1 point.
Looks like MK II is not popular in SK too. My friend told me yesterday, that movie will be available there only for a week. But maybe I heard him wrong.
I saw a tweet saying Michael’s theater run will be extended by another month and once I saw that tweet I knew people in the comments and quotes gonna throw out unrealistic numbers for it. One tweet said they expect 500-600 million from China for the movie lol
Really thought mk2 was gonna be a hit in china. With all the action and chinese characters. Guess i was wrong. Seems only expats in china are watching these hollywood movies.
This trend does not bode well for spidey and doomsday.
These numbers are super depressing for a Friday, they look like summer numbers from the pandemic lol.
