    >From the mind of visionary filmmaker Zach Cregger (Weapons, Barbarian) comes a thrilling — and terrifying — reinvention of the Resident Evil franchise. In an all-new story, Resident Evil follows Bryan (Austin Abrams), a medical courier who unwittingly finds himself in an action-packed, non-stop race for survival as one fateful, horrifying night collapses around him in chaos.

  2. Oh man this looks stylish and gross as hell. I know fans are gonna bellyache over it being an original story but this movie could be awesome. It’s interesting that the last two RE flicks flopped pretty hard domestically but the series has had a massive resurgence in popularity in the last few years which will definitely help.

  3. Holy *shit*, this looks amazing. Still wish it starred a rookie Leon, but Zach gets the property far more than Paul WS Anderson ever has.

Hope it works. At the very least, Sony & Constantin will make a killing.

  4. well, at least there are no classic characters to screw up..

i’ll give an original story a chance.

really good year for capcom-games-turned-movies between this and street fighter

The lighting and tension in that trailer look straight out of a Resident Evil cutscene.

Yeah I’m thinking Cregger is HIM. The dude does not miss and I’m proudly a #beggerforcregger

After how amazing Weapons was, Cregger is now a director where I will check out anything he does. Honestly couldn’t care less if this isn’t a straight adaptation of any of the games as long as it captures the spirit, which it definitely looks like to be the case.

Also very happy Austin Abrams is the lead because of how hilarious his character was in Weapons.

Oh shit I think he got the vibe down. I know some people wanted something following the story of the games, but I feel like this is a better direction for a movie.

Him rummaging through drawers, finding a random shotgun, dropping into the sewers, seemingly being alone for the most part, that’s all RE to me.

  10. As a huge Resident Evil fan I’m absolutely thrilled, this looks really good. Very gory and atmospheric, it could have been a modern RE cutscene.

    I trust you Zach !

  11. 1. Good to see the 1980s Dune version of Baron Harkonan appearing in something new

    2. *This* is what people have been hyping up as a massive improvement from Paul WS Anderson’s first resident evil film? May be a better film but not exactly more resident evil-y from what little I know of the games. Feels more like Lindelhof’s watchmen to me (in that the selling point seems more like ‘acclaimed creative gets to do his own big genre project that we’re nominally tying to a cool ip’)

  12. This looks amazing. Obviously it’s just a teaser, but it teased the hell out of me, this might be a day one.

  13. I’m only going to watch this because of Zach Cregger, I loved Weapons and Barbarian. There was a recent Resident Evil series and it was terrible.

As expected, it has nothing to do with Resident Evil other than the title and likely mentioning things like Raccoon City.

  15. Wait…what? How is this even RE? Is that guy supposed to be one of the Umbrella Corp scientist or something?

  16. With both this and Whalefall coming out, this is going to be the breakout year for Austin Abrams (who’s still only 29 – the dude’s been around for so long that I was sure he was a babyfaced 30-something)

Another shit show resident evil movie. Maybe they’ll get it right with the 4th or 5th reboot that comes next.

  18. Just like until dawn..

It’s good movie if it original title..

But you take game IP franchise, im not feeling any of RE..

  19. If you’re gonna make a Resident Evil movie, actually make a Resident Evil movie. Cause so far this just looks like another zombie movie with the brand “Resident Evil” slapped on to it.

  20. my only concern atm is that we don’t see any monsters outside of zombies, even a hint of something like a hunter or licker would put me at ease.

man they got the fucking weapons guy to make a resident evil movie and there’s people in this thread complaining about Leon not being in this, yall don’t deserve shit LMAO

  22. I kinda like the fact that they’re making the main character just your average everyday citizen caught up in the horror. Most of the RE films usually relegate them to side characters. He would’ve been cannon fodder in one of the earlier films.

  23. Loved Barbarian and Weapons.I am not an horror fan but his movies have enough mistery and humor to make me watch them. If this is a hit(which honestly seem it’s going to be because Resident evil it’s a strong IP) I wonder if he could become a famous director maybe more in line to Robert Eggers ?

I don’t know anything about the games lore, but I reslly enjoyed barbarians and weapons, so I’ll definitely check this out!

  25. I’m sold. This looks hella good. I don’t care if it doesn’t have any of the video game characters in it. This looked scary and intense, something that the movies have been missing, but have been core parts of most of the games. I’d rather a movie try to capture the feel of the games than recreate something I can go play at my own will.

Zach was smart to make his own thing. Adapting any of these games is such a foolish idea.

  26. This looks good. I will watch it if I hear good word of mouth and just pretend it’s not Resident Evil. There you go, problem solved.

Could have been called anything else but slapping Resident Evil on the box gets it instant recognition. But this won’t get blowback like the Anderson films and the last reboot did.
