The new Michael Jackson biopic Michael has opened with the biggest debut ever for a biographical film, taking roughly $97 million in North America and about $217 million worldwide in its opening weekend.
Was there really any controversy surrounding the movie itself?

I’m shocked but really I shouldn’t be. Michael Jackson has always been the ultimate anomaly in every regard. I didn’t realize he was this relevant still in 2026 to the point where 6 year olds are die hard fans of him. But Michael has always had IT whatever it is he had it and still does. I’ve never seen a core fan base range from 6 year old kids- 80 year old ladies who can barely walk. It was incredible to see. That’s why he’ll remain the king of pop.

If there’s one thing the last few years have shown us, when the followers are devoted enough, there’s nothing they won’t ignore. Congratulations to the studio and Jackson family, I guess.

Loved the film.
Going again this week.
Probably the best biopic ever made. Jaafar embodied Michael. And no surprise on the box office really, considering he’s the biggest and most famous performer of all time.

Michael Jackson is dead for like 17 years and his name is still printing money. People don’t care if he was fucking kids.
There was no controversy. The GA doesn’t care about the allegations and nobody irl believes them.
