Not surprised the controversy free, juke box musical version of this story is doing well. People are so braindead that they just want to see imagery they already know regurgitated back at them, so they can scream and point in excitement that they recognize something being shown to them.

This is a propaganda film put out by the Jackson estate to cleanse MJ’s image in the public eye. Audiences will gobble this up, and argue with anyone that dares speak ill will of their idol. It sets a dangerous precedent that Hollywood can make movies like this, remove all the complicated history of its subject, and make a ton of cash.

We have all the live performances readily available and accessible to watch. Who cares about recreating them? Not delving into the psychology of this incredibly complicated individual is a huge missed opportunity, and whitewashing the controversies around him is gross. Turning him into a hagiographic figure devoid of flaws is hugely problematic.

Not covering his demons defeats the whole purpose of even making a biopic, since we are never given a greater understanding of the processes and struggles behind closed doors. It’s all the stuff we already know and a waste of time. But hey, money!!!
