    1B+ incoming.

It‘ll be the 6th animated film to do so this decade:

    1. Ne Zha 2 – 2.2B

    2. Zootopia 2 – 1.87B

    3. Inside Out 2 – 1.7B

    4. Super Mario Bros. – 1.36B

    5. Moana 2 – 1.05B

Still a little Ahead of Jurassic World Dominion (825M) and Minecraft (816M)

Path to $1B is now $170M. With the Japan debut and still staying ahead of Minecraft, the billy should be within reach soon.

    1.05 Bil final.

Still good but the studio needs to focus on maybe telling a better story with mario 3. Still shows the power of the ip.

  5. I believe it was Kant who said “Experience without theory is blind, but theory without experience is mere intellectual play.” Mario exhibits experience by crushing turts all day, but he exhibits theory by stating “Lets-a gol”Keep it up, baby!

Fine hold 65.5% compared to last weeks Mon-Sun gross(80M vs 122M)

The first mario retained 88.3% of the weekly gross(158M vs 179M)

    Looks like

    420-425M dom

    600-615M OS

    $1.02-$1.04B final

  7. It’s going to make a billion, but it should not have been limping to it. Miyamoto needs to be sent back to Kyoto for the next film, you can see he had an oversized role in this and that’s what created most of its issues. He does this all the time.

It‘ll take some time to get to 1B+, but it‘ll definitely get there.

    Just for fun:

    AFTER 4TH WEEKEND:

    1. Moana 2 – 790M

    2. Toy Story 4 – 771M

    3. Incredibles 2 – 772M

    4. Super Mario Bros. – 1.022B

    5. Frozen II – 1.033B

    6. Inside Out 2 – 1.217B

    7. Zootopia 2 – 1.275B

We have Japan to thank for it! Only less than $170 million to $1 billion! We can do this!

    Last weekend, International grossed [50m](https://www.reddit.com/r/boxoffice/comments/1squqa5/super_mario_galaxy_movie_has_broken_750m_global/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)

So, that’s 46% drop minus Japan.

Google tells me 10b yen is 63m USD at today’s exchange rates.

    832m + 53m more from Japan = 885m.
    885m + 40m more from USA = 925m.
    925m + 15m from South Korea = 940m.

Needs to gross 60m from everywhere to hit billion. Another Jurassic World Dominion

    Lilo and Stitch numbers.

I know it’s major profit but let’s be honest. This is a massive disappointment for Universal. I don’t think it’s too far fetched to assume that they expected this to be one of their biggest movies ever, if not *the* biggest, and lay the groundwork to a 2b Smash Bros crossover film(idgaf if they say that wasn’t the plan, we *all* know it was). I do think this having such diminishing returns may get them to reconsider Star Fox or a Donkey Kong spin off, and get them to solely focus on making sure Mario stays a 1b franchise.

  12. Should break a billion but this has got to be concerning for the future of the franchise.

Galaxy is one of (if not) the biggest game in the franchise to the modern fan. If this can struggle to make a billion then the next movie won’t unless it’s a big crossover event

  13. INT minus Japan 26.9m, so a little over 20% ahead of DOM numbers. If DOM does get to around $425m (another $40m) that’d be another $50m int minus Japan.

So $920m plus whatever Japan has left and of course SK. Definitely going to be close, really depends on Japan legs!!

    Fun fact:

Super Mario Galaxy will become the first Hollywood non-Disney 1B+ film since Barbie (July 2023)

    1. BARBIE (2023) – 1.44B

    2. Inside Out 2 (2024) – 1.7B

    3. Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) – 1.33B

    4. Moana 2 (2024) – 1.06B

    5. Lilo & Stitch (2025) – 1.03B

    6. Zootopia 2 (2025) – 1.87B

    7. Avatar Fire & Ash (2025) – 1.49B

    8. SUPER MARIO GALAXY (2026) – 1B+
