From what I understand, this is a slightly lower OD than the first movie. Zootopia 2 had a ¥410m opening day, so this is about 25% lower than that.
Saturdays are bigger than Fridays in Japan, so look out for that. And Sunday will be bigger than Saturday. Overall I think Mario 2 will have a ¥1.5 billion OW in Japan, or under $10m.
Also I think the latest Detective Conan is trending behind the biggest one in the series, which was from 2024.

Mario 2 has taken it’s inevitable JP #1. Question is, can Toho-Towa and Uni get it to a reasonable final haul? Because if not, and a weak Japan makes it miss a billion… I dunno. Nintendo might ask Melandari to make some staff changes. Sure hope they do, anyways. Get better scripts!
