Some reviews are saying it doesn’t really stand out in terms of musical biopics so probably in the sixties or seventies
Oh this gonna be a good thread.
so it’s basically another extremely bland, lifeless entry in the extremely bland, lifeless biopic genre.
will probably make good bank anyway for it being a crowdpleaser that plays a highlight reel of mj’s legacy
I see this intentionally critic proof

It looks likely to go rotten but it will not matter
> The film turns the realities of a tragic, deeply complicated life into a sanitized popcorn film
So it’s giving everyone exactly what they want to see.
This is what happens when you hire Antoine Fuqua to direct your movie.

and so it begins
Oh boy here we go
Debuted with a 46 on Metacritic with 5 reviews…
Who asked for this?
I heard the movie ends at his peak. I find that to be a bad creative choice. Some of the best movies/stories in history show the characters rise, peak and then tragic downfall. Usually the tragic decline/downfall is the most dramatic/interesting part of the story. They’re taking out the most intriguing part. They could have done a great character study movie like Lawrence of Arabia or raging bull. But nope, seems like they just want to show a fairy tale with all fan service. Selling a fairy tale will probably do better in the box office, honestly. So I guess I know why they did that
44 Metacritic after 7 reviews…
Chris Rock once said, people like Michael Jackson so much they let the first kid slide
P U
Fuqua hasn’t had it in years
It doesn’t matter if it’s good or not. This is big budget black cinema..i can guarantee Black people will turn out for this. It’ll make good money here in the USA.
This movie looks beyond awful
LETS GOOOOO
“Because I’m bad, I’m bad, shamone (bad, bad, really, really bad)
You know I’m bad, I’m bad (bad, bad)
You know it (My film, really bad)”
This will be entertaining
It’s wild how many 1 billion box office predictions were made for this on Reddit
It would’ve been nice for the movie to follow the path of a Rocketman or Better Man by exploring the more taboo aspects of its subjects life and crafting some fresh visual spectacle to go along with it. But it looks like it’ll adhere more to the Bohemian Rhapsody/One Love formula of sanitizing the darker aspects and doing shot-for-shot remakes of iconic videos and moments. Not at all a surprise, but a disappointment for sure
Did critics really think an MJ biopic, with the full cooperation of his estate, was going to be super critical of MJ?
I will go see this and I will like it
Billy jean, broke the bank
