Freddy Got Fingered turns 25. Tom Green’s $14 million cult classic comedy initially bombed with $14 million ($30 million adjusted) before making $24 million in video sales; initial reviews were scathing, with Roger Ebert naming it one of his most hated films.

    >[This movie doesn’t scrape the bottom of the barrel. This movie isn’t the bottom of the barrel. This movie isn’t below the bottom of the barrel. This movie doesn’t deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence with barrels. … The day may come when *Freddy Got Fingered* is seen as a milestone of neo-surrealism. The day may never come when it is seen as funny.](https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/freddy-got-fingered-2001)

The “pissed off white man in his 50s completely at his wits end with his idiot son” is by far my favorite movie archetype and Freddy Got Fingered will likely never be beaten in that regard. “Get him a job! Wait no, get him an ambulance, you get a job” will always make me laugh.

  4. I’m just impressed that a movie where a guy jacks off a horse got a wide release.
