  1. They’re in no position to make demands. And theaters are in no position to even try to meet them either. Another spectacularly dumb move on Disney, yet again.

  2. They could at least ask for Dolby Atmos lol so basically now I can see I watched a lot of movies in infinity vision since I don’t have any IMAX or Dolby close but I have laser projection with Dolby Atmos

  3. It sure would be nice if they would help theaters upgrade their equipment instead of putting it all on the theater owners. IMAX should also be paying for upgrading their projectora to lasers or at least splitting the cost with theaters.

Instead of simply moving Doomsday up one week to secure IMAX for the all-important first week (frontloaded as all the fans try to see it early to avoid spoilers), they pull this out of a hat.

  5. >To qualify for the new Infinity Vision label, auditoriums will need a screen width of at least 50-feet, laser projection, and the 7.1 surround-sound system from Dolby Laboratories Inc., according to people familiar with the matter.

    >Close to 5,500 screens globally — about three times the number of Imax Corp. venues — would meet the standards for the new label, said the people, who asked not to be named as the information is private.

I don’t know why people are so up in arms about this. Neither Disney nor theaters are creating anything new, they’re just making a list of “here are the best non-IMAX screens.”

People generally associate “PLF” with “IMAX”, but there’s lots of other PLFs out there. Even if the idea was born out of something kinda petty, promoting the availability of other PLFs is not an inherently bad idea.

  6. When your selling less and less tickets as time goes on and the attendance figures keep going down the goal is to try and make existing tickets cost more by any means possible.

And this is no exception. Nor is it exclusive to Disney.

so this is why they didn’t move doomsday? they were just going to lump together all the PLFs they’re going to have access to that week under the marvel brand?

  8. IMAX: Sony and Disney, I can’t give you the screens to show Spider-Man or Avengers because there’s already a contract in place with other movies filmed for my format.

    Sony: Ok, no problem.

Disney: I’m going to create my own brand, I’m going to compete with you, this is an abuse 😭😭😭

It is interesting how anything related to Doomsday makes a certain chunk of this sub so angry.
