This could have done better right after Rege-Jean Page’s Bridgerton season, not 5 years later. Still, this is even worse than I expected.

They should just dropped it on Hallmark or Lifetime

Imagine having an 18m budget and managing to still lose millions.

If you’re going to do a rom-com that doesn’t have an A-lister, you probably gotta have a sub-$10M budget like Solo Mio.
Once upon a time, these rom-coms could draw. Not anymore

Saw it with a friend since she wanted to see it today actually. Pretty decent. Had good laughs in it. Didn’t really stand out to me. Who I was with was crazy for the film though.

One on hand, bummer. I like the see a diverse spread of genres doing well at the box-office. On the other hand…I actually saw the film and it was so painfully unoriginal that I am not surprised no one is going to see this in theaters.
I was not expecting this redefine the genre by any means, BUT if your movie is going to be so painfully unoriginal and by the numbers, at least pump the dialog or add interesting characters. Do SOMETHING to make this movie stand out in any way!
It looks and feels like it was made for Netfix and because of that I think that this is where it will be banished to. The realm of other forgettable rom-coms on Netflix that teen girls half watch while scrolling on their phone.

this is such a quandary. people scream for these types of films and say Hollywood should be making more of this content, but they also don’t go see the movies.

This didnt have a clear target demo and that is a huge problem. Middle aged women aren’t coming out for a hailey and Rege two hander and young people arent coming out for a romcom and so who’s it for? Even if you want to break it down racially it’s not targeting a black audience or a white audience or even an Italian audience, doesnt alienate anyone but doesn’t have any draw. All that being said I enjoyed it for what it was.
