A feature film about Mr. Benn, the bowler hat-wearing British kids’ character who first appeared in a series of books and then fronted a beloved animated TV series, appears to be moving forward after many years of discussions.

Kirk Jones, who recently directed smash hit indie “I Swear” — which won both leading actor and best casting at the BAFTA awards from five nominations — has been attached to write and direct a live-action film adaptation of the “Mr Benn” series, which has been announced by 48 Films, BeaglePug Ltd, Jackpot Productions and One Story High.

Casting for the lead role of Mr Benn plus supporting roles is due to start later this year, with production expected to begin next year. British comedian and host Jack Whitehall is producing the new feature, something that will no doubt spark speculation he may be playing the title role.
