It’s been 9 years since the live action Beauty & the Beast opened in theaters and has retained its crown as the most successful march opening.
The movie opened at $174,750,616 surpassing the previous record holder, BvS, $166,007,347 opening, but the DCEU movie had the Easter boost which B & B didn’t have.
Since then, the only film that came close, but still so far was Captain Marvel in 2019 ($153,433,423) Disney renaissance hype was bigger than Pre-Endgame hype?
Only three movies from the 2020’s (so far) are part of the Top 10 March opening weekends: The Batman (2022) ($134,008,624) Dune Part 2 (2024) ($82,505,391) and Godzilla vs Kong The New Empire (2024) $80,006,561.
If Project Hail Mary opens at $86-$90 as projected, the film will surpass both Dune and Godzilla, but fall short of the 2010’s releases.
Overall: Beauty and The Beast (2019) is the most successful march opening and final Box Office (non adjusted for inflation) of all time as of 2026.
