THE DIVERGENT SERIES: ALLEGIANT open 10 years ago this week. The third film in the Divergent series grossed $179.2 million against $110–142 million budget, making it the lowest-grossing film in The Divergent Series, and effectively ending the franchise.

  1. Most legendary flop of all time imo.

The 2nd part was dated for a year later and ready to be filmed and they literally were just like nah.

Oh, this one is DOOZY! This film actually covers the first half of the book and the second half was going to be covered in another film, but because this was such a failure, the second part practically got abandoned, making this the only film series that ended up getting scrapped with just one film left to go.

Also, for some reason, they decided to NOT film both parts simultaneously, which reeks of arrogance.

Imagine ending a trilogy on a cliffhanger and then cancelling the finale.

I hope to god this same shtick doesn’t occur with 28 Years Later Part 3.

The “splitting the last movie into 2 parts” trend backfired spectacularly this movie.

There was talk about ending the franchise with some tv movie (followed by a spin off show) but that ended up never happening.

It’s funny cuz I loved the first two Divergent books, but the third one was so bad that I quit about 1/3rd of the way into it, and I never bothered to finish. The big reveal was so bad that it made everything so lame and uninteresting.

The fact Lionsgate was stupid enough to split this franchise finale into two films when these movies were never in the levels of both Twilight or Hunger games is one of the most mind-boggling decisions ever. So sad Woodleys career never really recovered after these movies ended, and shes was building up to be a leading star in the 2010’s, hopefully she can make a comeback someday.
