Early estimates from the European Audiovisual Observatory indicate that the downturn in cinema attendance across Europe continued and intensified in 2025, with admissions falling by 5.5% from 843 million (against -1.7% last year), to 796 million admissions. This compares to a 1.7% decrease in 2024 and marks the lowest admissions level since 2022, when admissions totalled 724 million.

Whereas gross box office revenues in Europe remained comparatively stable in 2025, reaching an estimated EUR 6.36 billion, only -0.6% down from EUR 6.40 in 2024. As in the previous year, the drop in attendance was mostly offset by an increase in average ticket prices, which rose from €7.6 to an estimated €8.1 (+6.6%)

5.5% attendance decrease vs 6.6% ticket price increase. Do theater owners know they are reaching a tipping point soon?
