Putting aside my brobdinagian distaste for Jeff Sneider:
Disney needs to understand that there is no Pirates of the Caribbean without Jack Sparrow. You can remove other elements and still be ok, but Jack Sparrow is that franchise. And whatever one thinks of Johnny Depp or the Amber Heard stuff, Johnny Depp is Captain Jack Sparrow.
It is absolutely in their interest to get Sparrow back in the film in some capacity. I’d like to add that Gore Verbinski has a critically well liked film that is coming out this weekend. The series never quite recaptured the highs once he left, so I say bring him back aboard too. I’d also bring Will and Elizabeth back in some capacity as well for good measure.
And yes, if they want to cast Jack Sparrow’s son in the movie and Margot Robbie as well, that’s fine by me.
But if they want this movie to fail, having it be without Jack Sparrow is the surest way to do so.

Disney is the most risk averse studio in Hollywood so i am not surprised that they are nervous about bringing Johnny Depp back.

I’ll be surprised if Margot Robbie ends up staying attached to this honestly it always seemed like a weird fit.
If Depp’s studio movies releasing this year: Lionsgate’s Day Drinker and Paramount’s Scrooge do moderately well how much do you want to bet they just rewrite the movie to be a father and son story.
