Scream 7 releases in exactly a month from now and there has only been 1 trailer and 1 TV spot with mostly reused footage from previous films and the first trailer. Paramount is sending the movie and franchise out to die by not spending anything on the marketing.

The marketing team layoffs due to the Skydance merger, and Paramount's unhealthy obsession with acquiring WB despite being rejected 8 separate times (while Netflix already has a deal in place) is ruining this movie's chances. I don't know whether the 'boycott' over the Melissa Barrera firing is impacting this movie, but Paramount's muted marketing is not helping.

Heck, even The Running Man received much more marketing than this and its marketing budget was cut by $20M: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/paramount-plans-ninja-turtles-south-park-1236439954/

This is not a normal situation at all.

It’s going to be a good opening. Tracking is 25-30 and that’s with minimal pushing so far. No reason to start until February. Everyone who would go to a Scream movie will know it’s coming out in 4 weeks. And I’d rather not see too much of the footage. The trailer already shows too much. Plus Neve is front and center for the first time since 4… she’s gonna be all over interviewing and promoting

Think it might just be a little too early. New trailer at the Super Bowl & then heavy marketing during the Olympics. SpongeBob’s marketing didn’t start until mid November

  3. I do remember leading up to scream 6 there was a new poster almost every week, marketing was everywhere for it. This one not so much at all

Paramount is in quite a rut these days that it wouldn’t surprise me if this new one debuts with little fanfare. Still think it’s gonna do well even if numbers go down from VI, just the worst cast scenario is something to think about.

Cryptic4kQual (very reliable twitter runtime/marketing scooper). Says Trailer 2 drops on February 9th. I do agree the marketing feels a bit weak especially compared to the last. But i think it’ll be fine overall

  6. Paramount’s slate is really not very compelling this year. Avatar has been taken off the release schedule, what’s the point of Scream 7 when both the leads they were setting up before were let go as was the previous director.

Jackass 5 sounds cool but it won’t save the slate.

The only movie that I’m really curious about from Paramount this year is Street Fighter. But even then, that’s more on Legendary Pictures than Paramount if it’s a hit.

This is why the Ellisons’s ridiculous pursuit of Warner Bros is baffling me. Why spend all this time and energy and money trying to acquire another studio when the studio you already have is so broken. Spend some of that money on enticing new and exciting projects and filmmakers and showrunners to Paramount.

Word is that the movie is abominable, which may have paramount scared to throw tons of money at a movie that’s gonna be OW heavy.

I wouldn’t call it a concern since I’m not going anywhere near this movie. It just feels to me like they’re continuing to rely upon nostalgia bait for a bunch of actors — and an IP — that can’t genuinely be all that nostalgic for most of these people. Do 20-somethings care at all about Courteney Cox, Neve Campbell and Matthew Lillard? Probably not, but are they so invested in this IP that they’re keen on seeing it handed off to Mckenna Grace, Isabel May and Mason Gooding?

  9. Gonna Suck like all the recent scream movies. The NYC got away with it because it was a cool theme and good marketing, but the actual story sucked. The killer is completely random and gimmicky, the film might as well be written by manatees using randomized idea balls.

  10. This movie was cooked as soon as they went full zionist and fired Melissa Barrera, which then led to them losing Jenna Ortega. Without them the only play left was to fallback on nostalgia bait. Doesn’t seem to be working, but I find it easy to not care.

  11. Either Paramount just isn’t very confident in the movie’s quality and are just saving all the marketing for the last minute or they are too concerned about other crap rather than promoting their own movies or something else, idk.

At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if the critical reception is similar to The Running Man (62 RT, 56 Metacritic) or worse, it may even end up being received better than that, anything is possible, but it is pretty weird, plus that weird legacy “trailer” using clips from the old movies kinda reeks of desperation.

After 28 Years Later The Bone Temple’s disastrous performance despite the good reviews because of the previous film being divisive…. man, I don’t expect Scream 7 to “flop” necessarily, but if it’s not good, def see maybe even making less than the 5th film did, can’t imagine the budget is any higher than 6’s 35M, locations in the trailer so far don’t look like they would be much more than they were in the 5th one (24M budget). I saw the trailer before Marty Supreme, that’s kinda all I’ve seen of marketing so far though.

Paramount is too busy trying not to self destruct while its insane boss has a meltdown over WB

They’ll probably have a 30 second spot during the Super Bowl and certainly will have a new trailer ready to go with Wuthering Heights

  14. (1) Scream movies in 2022 and 2023 were both well received; (2) Kevin Williamson conceived Scream into being and has a Scream 7 writing credit – his first credited write on a Scream movie in 15 years; (3) test screenings for Scream 7 are positive and highlight a return to roots; (4) Scream 7 is releasing in IMAX, a first for the franchise; (5) Scream 8 is in development; (6) horror overall [enjoyed a 15.55% share of the US box office market in 2025](https://www.the-numbers.com/market/genre/Horror) – the highest share for the genre in data that goes back to 1995

    Scream 7 will be fine

Too much marketing gives away the big twists.
They just had ghost face walking with the winner ucf fight. It’s waste money if you do it too far out. 2 week lead up and heavy push on opening weekend. No need for media blitz 6 months away, especially when 65% has short attention span

  16. Comfortable-Meet-118 on

Last two scream movies did so good. Scream 6 was saved by Jenna Ortega in Wednesday a few months before the release. The hype is non existent for a new scream

  17. Every fan of Scream knows that the 7 part is coming. Saying that , change of direction, script , and cast can affect the movie in a negative way. Yes we have Neve and Courtney but let’s see if this Mother/daughter game that was spoiled on the trailer, works. I will watch it on the cinemas as a big fan of the franchise, don’t care reviews or box office.

  18. The marketing does seem to be kicking up *a bit* – but with random UFC and car racing? An odd partnership.

Otherwise, I do think the marketing has been oddly flaccid. The first trailer was fine, but not nearly as exciting or propulsive as literally every other “Scream” trailer. I think the “Legacy” trailer was actually a big improvement in that regard.

I’m curious to see if it increases at all – because right now it seems like Paramount is leaving the film to succeed on its own.

I also imagine that marketing is a bit harder. With the firing of Barrera, social media posts get flooded with negative comments. So it’s not easy for them just promote it without a wave of that negativity. With the loss of Barrera and Ortega, they also lost two very online actors. Neve Campbell is basically MIA on socials (not new). And Courteney Cox seems to be a bit reticent to push it – where she was all in on the previous two. I think they all know that promoting it has its own drawbacks for them. Curious to see if it gets a big, public premiere.

I’ve been a lifelong fan of the franchise, and I’m absolutely stoked for another installment. But there is no real urgency this time or hook to lure you in. It’s just another Scream film, yet again starring Neve Campbell, with yet anothrr Ghostface who has yet again a grudge against Sidney.

It’s like Avatar 3 actually. It’s just another sequel, so there is no reason to really get excited for it unless you are a die hard fan. I’m sure this will end up being amongst the best seventh entries in long running slasher franchises. Though you’d be surprised just how good some of those movies are (Halloween H20, Cult of Chucky, New Nightmare)

  20. Takemyfishplease on

I’ve seen trailers for it before almost every movie I’ve seen recently.

It’s the Seventh in a well known series, it’s not going to need mass market marketing to hit its demo.
