Box Office Weekend Forecast: MERCY ($8-10M+) Should Dethrone AVATAR; Fathom’s LORD OF THE RINGS Anniversary Continues; NFL & Winter Weather May Be Problematic
With the massive snowstorm predictions this could be a pretty rough weekend for all movies.

Don’t see Mercy taking the #1 spot with the reviews are really bad especially with winter storms now impacting parts of the regions

I would like Avatar to land at #1 again but I think it’s likely to drop (still do well) only because it’s losing premium formats, tho I can still see it at #1.
I think Mercy tracking is gonna be way off and I will be surprised to see it open above $7.5M. Looking at my local IMAX, there are 7 premium times on Friday, 2 IMAX, 1 IMAX 3D, and 4 MX4D. there are currently a total of 6 seats booked, nothing in MX4D, which has been consistently packed for Avatar for weeks. Plus not a single seat is booked in the standard showings. Saturday is equally as dismal, so seems like presales are not going to be the way to determine this one. Paired with winter storms, I can’t see people going out for this one.
TLOTR will perform similarly.
Silent Hill hasn’t had great marketing and its screenings are limited $3M might be hard to hit.
overall I think it’s probably gonna be a low weekend and avatar might still come out on top

Why would Mercy dethrone Avatar if it’s only predicted to get 8-10M here…? I feel like people are just being ridiculous with predictions for this weekend.

Last week I heard and saw the headline saying 28 years later WILL dethrone Avatar. Now it is Mercy SHOULD dethrone Avatar. Until a worthy opponent comes Varang will never allow it to happen.
