Hey everyone, just wanted to share the 2025 Year-End Box Office Ranking for Mainland China (excluding HK, Taiwan, and Macau). This market is honestly a different beast compared to the rest of the world.Data from maoyan.com
The Top 10 Breakdown:
Out of the top 10, only two are Hollywood titles (Zootopia 2 and Avatar 3). The rest are all domestic Chinese productions.
Some crazy context for you guys:
The last time a Hollywood movie actually took the #1 spot for the year in China was way back in 2014 with Transformers: Age of Extinction. Since then, local blockbusters have basically owned the throne.
The "Zootopia 2" Hype:
Zootopia 2 is doing incredibly well over here right now. It’s still in theaters and has some serious legs. Even though it's technically a 2025 release, it’s performing so well that it might actually end up being the #1 movie of 2026 if the momentum keeps up.

I saw 6 Chinese movies from this list. Dead to Rights was the best, Detective Chinatown was the weakest, they’re used the same formula with twist ending way too much.
Goddamn, that top 10 is top loaded as hell. Complete opposite of this year’s North American top 10
I appreciate the average ticket price and average attendance numbers. Makes you wonder if our race to the most expensive, helps or hurts BO.
