I can totally understand why people still live the LOTR movies. Basically I am a fan but I wonder if anyone else has a complicated relationship with them. When these came out, the people I knew who were excited about LOTR were in the parents/teacher category, between 30s and 50s in age. They introduced me to Tolkien but I never quite felt ownership because I didn’t find it on my own. However I know there are lots of very young fans from reading comments and whatnot. And probably a lot of people whose parents were not into fantasy so when the movies came out they were something new and trendy. EDIT: Trendy’s not the right word, I mean something you enjoy a little extra because your parents don’t especially like it.
Also I always felt a bit shut down when I made criticisms of the way the books were adapted because I think so many fans felt very grateful to Jackson for having made a successful adaptation.
