    Is Greenland 2 the First Film Ever to Be a Theatrically-Released Direct Sequel of a Non-Theatrically-Released Movie?


    I'm trying to find any examples of this ever happening. There have been cases like Texas Chainsaw Massacre where the original was theatrical, a sequel was direct-to-video, then a subsequent sequel or reboot was theatrical. But I don't think we've ever seen a case where part 1 wasn't theatrical but part 2 was.

      High School Musical 3. I think some anime movie franchises might count too, like One Piece Film Red.

      Greenland 1 was made as a theatrical film. It just didn’t get released in the US because of COVID. It still was released theatrically overseas.

      Detective conan vs lupin the 3rd 2 was in theaters in japan but first was a tv movie.
