      “Adult Upscale” *what*?

This isn’t even a thing. It’s literally a phrase invented for this headline, LOL. Do I even need to check the byline on this?

…yup, **D’Alessandro**, of course it was.

“Adult Dramas” is what he means to say, which is itself kind of redundant in the first place, they’re just… **dramas.** Which were historically always meant for adults anyway, we only make up fake redundant terms like “adult drama” because that’s as close as we’ll get to acknowledging most of what people go to the theatre for are kids movies made for “grownups”

The reason **DRAMAS** don’t do well at the box-office is because their audience (adults who want to watch dramas on a big screen) is not only small, but more selective, so the quality of these movies REALLY matters. Problem being the critical machine that used to function in order for adults to make informed choices is FUCKED. It’s dead. And folks don’t read anymore anyway so unless you can craft significant buzz based on your drama’s atmosphere, it’s going to be a struggle to get people to see your movie.

And if that buzz says its NOT GREAT (hey there, Luca!) then of course it’s going to pancake at the box-office. It’s already behind the 8-ball in that it’s a drama, and not a Kids Movie for Grownups.

**edit:** you’ll never convince me this bitchy pinhead doesn’t lurk here, either. We’re basically writing his column for him. Lazy-ass.

    2. I would very much like for the author of this article to explain precisely and in great detail what in the living hell is an adult “upscale” movie. And also how is that in any way, shape or form different from a normal big studio movie targeting the adult demographics.

I will say that I was deeply sad Smashing Machine, Warfare, Eddington and Caught Stealing flopped, they’re seriously excellent films.

Though I will also say that if I did not work at a theater I would not have heard of any or been interested in them.

that’s because all the movies are average at best

or they’re technically excellent but at the end of the day uninspired and not worthy of a trip to the theater
