Beautiful speech, but what nonsense. I respect his high regard for the Law, but that it would hypothetically apply to the Devil is ridiculous.
Reminds me of those Kantians with such a high regard for the Truth that they would give up Anne Frank in her attic to the Nazis so as not to tell a lie.
There are normally limits to even the most sacred, cherished principles. And part of wisdom is knowing when those rare bounds apply.
