Most people on this site have no idea how popular Shaolin Soccer was in the far east. It even inspired the name of an online language teenagers used in the late 2000s.

    2. I want the ability to buy both digitally dubbed kung fu hustle and Shaolin soccer. Sadly they only sell the sub ones

If this was 20-odd years ago, I’d be excited. I feel like Stephen Chow has lost his mojo since then.

    4. Not too excited for this. His movies ever since his move to the mainland chinese market haven’t been too great.

announcing a kung fu soccer movie during the world cup is either the best marketing timing in years or a complete coincidence and either way it works

    6. I actually just recently discovered From Beijing With Love. Chow humor is like dad jokes.

    7. Hell yeah! Tried watching Shaolin Soccer the other night on prime, but it didn’t have the option for subtitles or the dub for some reason.

I’ve watched Shaolin Soccer and God of Cookery a stupid amount of times starting since high school. I welcome more with open arms.

My first introduction to Chow was the Chinese Odyssey films. His comedic timing is even evident in action scenes. Cannot wait to see this next film!

How about releasing all his titles on Netflix? The wuxia ones that I had to look for and buy bootleg for. Even the modern ones are very funny too, even if you can’t understand Chinese/Cantonese references.

A bit disappointed on his politics tho, really hard to separate art from the artist.

    11. I love Shaolin Soccer so much I have somehow managed to buy the Chinese version on DVD 3 times. I would just buy it whenever I saw it at street vendors.

    12. Isn’t it still in post-production, but set to a release date of July 10 / 17, be it a joke of Chow’s or not.

With only one month left and not a set date, I wouldn’t be too optimistic of the final product, let alone his track record is meh in the last two decades

Shaolin Soccer was the movie that taught me to appreciate movies in their original language. Cause, my fucking god…..the English dub was horrible. I regretted watching it in theaters. But when I got the dvd, watching it in its original language was amazing

    14. Up until this day I don’t understand his CJ7 movie. That was so weird and unlikeable. His previous movies were the best, but I liked his newer movies too. Mermaid and New King of Comedy too. They were great fun. It’s so sad he barely makes movies….

This confused me a bit because “Futbol Kung Fu” (Kung Fu Soccer) is the official name of the Spanish release.

    16. >> stars Zhang Xiaofei, Dilraba Dilmurat and Lay Zhang

Do they know how to do comedy? I don’t have any expectations at all.

    17. Without Stephen Chow as the main actor and Ng Man-tat as the sidekick this movie won’t have the soul of the original.

From the cast looks like a bunch of pretty ladies and a gentleman love interest…I’m not confident this will be any good…

I love when Stephen Chow is mentioned on here because it’s a reminder to go binge his classics again. God of Cookery is goated.

    19. Someone needs to get Stephen Chow on the line to make a Dragon Ball live action trilogy.

    20. Used to spam that VCD my family got from Malaysia pasar malam. That intro soundtrack is burned into my brain.

    21. Am I the only one who is wondering why there is no trailer or promotion for this movie that is supposed to hit the screens next month?

    22. If my memory is correct, isn’t “Kung Fu Soccer” the title Miramax wanted to give Shaolin Soccer for US distribution before online backlash made them reconsider?

I wish he would participate in the films himself again even though he always falls out with the cast he works with
