He is the coolest human. He’s a regular on the Star Trek Cruise and he will take the time to really interact with fans. Totally cool guy who deserves way more recognition.

a chameleonic actor whose entire body has been the canvas for so many wonderful artists and filmmakers these past couple decades. Hell yeah, this is great to see him get recognition like this with whole doc
Mo-cap work is great too, but there’ll always be something really special with practical makeup and Jones is a legend in that field. Abe Sapien in Golden Army is far and away my favorite character of his and not just for the makeup but the earnestness and warmth he brought to the role. Being able to emote and act under all that is fucking impressive

One of the things about his career trajectory that I really enjoyed (and I don’t know if anyone else noticed or cared about this) was that in the first Hellboy movie, Abe’s voice was actually performed by David Hyde Pierce, not Doug Jones, but in Hellboy 2, Doug Jones provided the *full* performance himself.
I just loved to see that progression. It wasn’t even really acknowledged as a progression because Pierce wasn’t even credited as Abe Sapien’s voice, but to me it symbolized a big recognition of Doug Jones’ talent as a complete actor, not just the tall scrawny guy to be hired to play a weird alien or fae creature. In a way it’s similar to how Andy Serkis’ full range of acting ability beyond motion capture and voiceover has been unveiled.

FYI: Doug Jones has a cameo in my buddy’s horror comedy “Demonetize.” He’s currently doing the film festival circuit

A richly deserved spotlight. Glad to see so many people come around on him over the years, which is quite the feat (how often do we see his actual face?). It must be strange to be the male romantic lead in a Best Picture winner and still not have anyone know who you are.
